Count
Overview
The count tool returns the number of records or entities that match a set of filters. Use it when the business question asks "How many" or when an agent needs a quick market size before deeper analysis.
Common Use Cases
Use count to answer questions such as:
| Use Case | Example |
|---|---|
| Posting volume | How many unique postings match a specific occupation and location? |
| Employer activity | How many unique companies are posted for a particular role or skill? |
| Talent supply | How many profiles match a skill, occupation, or geographic area? |
| Market sizing | Determine the count of matching postings or profiles before deeper analysis. |
| Employer coverage | Measure the number of companies hiring within a market segment. |
| Supply and demand comparison | Compare posting counts with profile counts where equivalent dimensions were supported. |
Supported Datasets
The count tool supports the following datasets.
| Dataset | Supported | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Job Posting | Yes | Requires a time filter. |
| Profile | Yes | Supports profile, school, and company count metrics. |
Inputs
The tool accepts the following inputs.
| Input | Description |
|---|---|
dataset | The dataset to analyze. Supported values are job_postings and profiles. |
filter | Dataset-specific filters built from supported dimensions. |
metrics | Count metrics to return. |
Use dataset to select the data source, filter to define the records to include, and metrics to specify the counts you want returned.
Supported Metric families:
| Dataset | Metrics |
|---|---|
job_postings | postings.unique_postings, postings.total_postings, postings.duplicate_postings, postings.unique_companies |
profiles | profiles.unique_profiles, profiles.unique_schools, profiles.unique_companies |
Select the metrics that best match your analysis goals. For example, you can measure posting activity and employer presence depending on the metrics you include in the request.
For more information on metric concepts, see Metrics.
