Use Cases

Lightcast Company Postings APIs help you access, analyze, and explore job posting data at the company level across U.S. labor markets. They allow you to retrieve aggregate totals, track company hiring trends over time, rank employers by posting volume, access individual company posting records, and understand how postings are distributed across defined segments, enabling consistent, reliable insights into company-level employer demand.

Explore the use cases below to understand how the Company Postings API can be applied in real-world scenarios.

Note that, currently Company Postings apply specifically to the U.S. only.

Retrieve Total Postings

Understanding hiring activity at the company level requires a reliable way to summarize posting data filtered by location, skill, and time period. Without a consistent method to aggregate company-level posting data, it is difficult to assess how individual organizations are competing for talent, benchmark compensation, or evaluate hiring volume within a specific market across the United States.

This API enables you to retrieve aggregate job posting metrics at the company level, filtered by date range, state, and skill set. It returns a summary of unique posting counts and median salary, giving you a concise, high-level view of company hiring activity and compensation benchmarks within a defined segment of the U.S. labor market.

See the Company Postings Totals API reference for full request parameters and response details.

When to Use

  • You want to measure total job posting volume for a specific company filtered by location and skill set
  • You need a baseline summary of company-level hiring activity before conducting deeper analysis
  • You are benchmarking compensation and posting volume for a specific organization within a U.S. state

Posting Trends Over Time

Measuring a company's hiring activity at a single point in time does not reveal how its recruiting patterns are shifting across U.S. labor markets. Without a time-based view of company-level posting activity, it is difficult to identify hiring surges, slowdowns, or seasonal patterns in employer demand for a specific organization within a defined location.

This API enables you to track job posting activity for a specific company over time by returning monthly unique posting counts across a defined date range, filtered by company name and city. It breaks down posting volume month by month alongside cumulative totals, giving you a structured view of how a company's hiring demand has evolved across U.S. labor markets.

See the Company Postings Timeseries API reference for full request parameters and response details.

When to Use

  • You want to track how a specific company's job posting volume changes month over month within a U.S. city or region
  • You need to identify hiring trends or seasonal patterns in a company's recruiting activity over a defined period
  • You are monitoring shifts in a specific organization's employer demand for workforce planning or competitive analysis
  • You want to compare a company's posting activity across different time periods to surface growth or decline in hiring

Rank Postings by Dimensions

Understanding which companies are driving the most hiring activity within a specific market requires a reliable way to rank employer demand at the company level. Without a structured view of posting volume by company, it is difficult to identify the most active hirers, benchmark organizational recruiting activity, or analyze competitive hiring patterns within a defined U.S. location.

This API enables you to rank companies by job posting activity within a defined city and date range, returning a structured list of top employers based on unique posting volume. Each result includes the company name and posting count, giving you a clear picture of which organizations are leading hiring demand within a specific U.S. market.

See the Company Postings Rankings API reference for full request parameters and response details.

When to Use

  • You want to identify which companies have the highest job posting volume within a specific U.S. city or region
  • You need to benchmark recruiting activity across employers competing for talent in the same market
  • You are analyzing competitive hiring patterns within a defined location for workforce planning or talent strategy

Retrieve Individual Postings

Analyzing company-level hiring activity often requires access to the underlying posting records, not just aggregated summaries. Without a way to retrieve and filter individual job postings by company, location, employment type, and date range, it is difficult to review posting content, validate classification data, or build workflows that depend on the details of specific roles within a defined U.S. market.

This API enables you to retrieve individual job posting records filtered by date range, city, and employment type. It returns paginated results with selected fields such as job title, company name, city, posting and expiration dates, full job body, and relevance score, giving you direct access to the underlying posting data at the company level across U.S. labor markets.

See the Company Postings API reference for full request parameters and response details.

When to Use

  • You want to retrieve and review individual job posting records for specific companies within a defined U.S. city or region
  • You need to access raw posting content filtered by employment type or location to validate classification or enrichment data
  • You are building a workflow or application that depends on the details of specific company-level job postings

Analyze Posting Distributions

Understanding how company job postings are spread across a defined market requires more than aggregate counts. Without a structured view of how postings are distributed across defined ranges within a specific state, it is difficult to assess where company-level employer demand is concentrated, identify gaps, or compare posting density across segments of the U.S. labor market.

This API enables you to analyze how company job postings are distributed across defined ranges within a specific state by returning data broken down into percentile buckets. Each bucket represents a percentile range and includes unique posting counts.

See the Company Postings Distributions API reference for full request parameters and response details.

When to Use

  • You want to understand how company job postings are distributed across defined segments within a specific U.S. state
  • You need to identify which ranges have the highest or lowest posting density at the company level.
  • You are analyzing company-level employer demand patterns across segments for workforce planning or competitive talent strategy
